I first started capturing her storytelling using the video mode on our digital camera, around about April, but she soon refused to let me film her. So I tried writing her stories while she told them, using pen and paper. That lasted for only a few stories too, before she caught on. Since then, I've been recording her using a mini MP3 recorder, which is pretty unobtrusive, and transcribing the audio later. She then objected strongly to this as well... Nowadays I use a combo of MP3 and video to record her before transcribing. I only manage to record a fraction of the stories she tells. I always have a backlog of stories on the recorder that still need transcribing, as it's impossible for me to keep up with her. To help new readers, I've marked my favourite stories with a star (*), so at least you have somewhere to start if you don't know where to begin. Don't forget to check the older archives too - there are some gems in there as well!

The Nineown Open Plain, 2007-08-29

Still from the batch of stories all recorded in one day, on August the 29th...

The Nineown Open Plain, the vulture didn’t circle above them, there were no time...

Contents!

(Then a little interruption because of me placing the recorder in a better position as she’d moved...)

No time (indecipherable), the little hook came to go out in the nineown open forest

He didn’t know that, but it was not nice in there

His mommy said, “You must go out, not go out in that forest please, because think you might find great changes out toward and great changes inside it. So must don’t go in, out is there, in there or out there. I scared the changes might step on you”

There were no time

“You must not go in there because Stegosaurus and mammals live in there. And outside there. You must not go in there.... and nothing else, bad things... bad dinosaurs live in there. And you (indecipherable) out there and bad mammals in there and out there too! So must not go in there or out there, because there’s no chickens and nothing else, so you CAN’T go in there... there’s only BAD things there, no good things. Only bad things. DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?”

“Nooo...” said him, said said said her child, “why shouldn’t then JUST DO IT?” (indecipherable phrase)

His daddy said, “No, you shouldn’t go in there or outside there either because it’s not nice to go in there or outside there. Some chickens and benign(?) things, and there are chickens or carnivores”

But no time, she telled by her parents, she wouldn’t go out there, outside. It’s a holiday, she didn’t go out, she go downstairs and didn’t came back. (Indecipherable phrase). Is sleeping, and she didn’t woked up.

After she didn’t woken up, she woked up and do some work. She didn’t believe (indecipherable). After she worked she went outside. (Indecipherable) and then trying to come back, and they was tell her not to go there again. She didn’t go out... walked... (indecipherable phrase) out, and walked away and not look outside, leaving her behind the dark (indecipherable) scary hill. She cried in terror as they walked away without her. Quite is terrified to see them walk away without her, leave her behind... dark narrow hill, sky... she went go in behind a dark, narrow, big hill.

They are not so long inside it, just standing there and didn’t go out. She didn’t look out. Inside.. they not looking for her, instead they were watching a little girl who out (distracted by me at this point and interjects “what are you doing?” very loudly, then continues after my brief response without breaking stride)

After the nineown, nothing else came near them but they goed inside then goed inside the house where they received (indecipherable), then do some work. There were no time but there were no time to lose after he take them to there was no drink there, only Dimetrodon looked. He tried to see me.

After she drink the drink there were no time but only a (indecipherable) that was so deep and so deep and so deep, the water... it was near, they didn’t come up. And it’s taken, stayed there for ages and ages... and so, comed out and then down. He was hiding and then he come back again then go in the water again.

That morning, after breakfast, Aladar didn’t look but only looked out from his new window. He opened the window. Threw it away because of the bad smell, made him cough all night and all along. This whole night long, he throwed it away... the rubbish bin.

After the nineown open plain she away, but only water and only drink, but no time and no drink... it’s sitting together near pickled(?) food, but no drink. The next day...

(She stopped the story here...)
