I first started capturing her storytelling using the video mode on our digital camera, around about April, but she soon refused to let me film her. So I tried writing her stories while she told them, using pen and paper. That lasted for only a few stories too, before she caught on. Since then, I've been recording her using a mini MP3 recorder, which is pretty unobtrusive, and transcribing the audio later. She then objected strongly to this as well... Nowadays I use a combo of MP3 and video to record her before transcribing. I only manage to record a fraction of the stories she tells. I always have a backlog of stories on the recorder that still need transcribing, as it's impossible for me to keep up with her. To help new readers, I've marked my favourite stories with a star (*), so at least you have somewhere to start if you don't know where to begin. Don't forget to check the older archives too - there are some gems in there as well!

More Story within the Story, 2007-08-11

I asked her about what the first word in this story was – Koick – she said it’s a type of dinosaur (that she invented), a long-necked carnivore that eats plankton and small dinosaurs... so on with the story...

Koick...Koicke... do you know Koicke?

Can you look outside at the noise so far away? Further, further away?

Hmm... Aladar know you lying...

At the top of Aladar’s head there came a loud bang. It was Lightning! He came, he came...

“What?”

Aladar came... with Corythosaurus, THEN....Pachy came and BONKED everybody with a loud cheer

Then they will slip away yet, with.. with someone new.... who is it?

“Who was that??”

“I know who was it!!!” (runs a distance away) “it’s him!!” (shouts) “him, him him! Him!”

Corythosaurus was looking out there, of Aladar’s playroom window

At first Aladar set his icon, he woke up at a day at (indecipherable) he had a drum stick. He was, he was alone till three of us was not sick anymore, but he was sick at noon time

“Well.... SO.... where was it? .... Oh, it was, where was it? Did it say where were we?..... Where were we?.....Oh, it was here! So... where were they?... Aladar, are you doing it? Looking out a.. where were we?..... Aladar, are you doing looking out inside the real world?”

They were looking outside at Aladar’s playroom window

At first, Aladar thought to be (indecipherable, followed by whispering)

(Indecipherable phrase), he should pay the man three dollars, to pay the money bank... he should pay the money bank, three dollars, to to to to pay Aladar’s First Adventure!
